Tipmont awards $15,406 in grants to 8 area nonprofits
Eight area nonprofits are benefiting from a round of grants totaling $15,406 from Tipmont REMC’s Operation Round Up program.
They include four Montgomery County organizations: Angel Blankets Chapter for Binky Patrol for quilting supplies; Family Crisis Shelter for flooring materials and paint; Montgomery County Youth Service Bureau for infant and toddler car seats; and Women’s Resource Center for baby supplies.
Grants in Tippecanoe County went to: Greater Lafayette Handicapped Sports Association for wheelchair repair parts and basketball jerseys; Home with Hope for a fundraising database program; and Modified Athletics for Kids Inc. for water safety vests for children with disabilities.
Attica Youth Football Inc. in Warren County also received funds to build an equipment storage facility.
Money for the grants comes from the electric company’s customers who allow their monthly bills to be rounded up to the next highest dollar. More than 9,100 Tipmont REMC customers participate. Since the program began a decade ago, Tipmont has distributed $663,150.35 to nonprofits in several counties.
“Operation Round Up is a unique giving program,” said Tim McCarthy, Tipmont chief executive officer. “It’s grassroots, easy to chip in and extremely beneficial to local communities.”
One of the largest benefactors in the region, Tipmont’s Operation Round Up is the only one collecting donations by rounding up bills, he said.
The application deadline for the next cycle is Monday, January 4, 2010. The program is open to 501(c) 3 organizations serving the Tipmont geographic area—Clinton, Fountain, Montgomery and Tippecanoe counties. Organizations interested in applying for funds may obtain an application online at www.tipmont.org or call 1-800-726-3953.
